NKY Cities and Counties Applying for CDBG-COVID Utility Assistance Grants
On January 25, 2021, Gov. Beshear announced CDBG-Coronavirus Response funds available to local governments in order to help Kentuckians with overdue utility bills within their jurisdiction. Since the announcement, NKADD has been working with the Department for Local Government (DLG), Northern Kentucky Community Action (NKCA) and our city and county governments on applications for this funding.
We anticipate 30-35 NKADD local governments will apply for over $5 million, with the goal of making sure our entire ADD District has funding for eligible households to receive assistance.
Households will be eligible if they have been financially impacted by COVID-19, are struggling to pay utility bills, and have received notice for delinquency or disconnect between January 21, 2020 and present day. Households will apply to NKY Community Action Commission and, if approved, relief of up to $250/month for 6 consecutive months would be paid directly to the utility company on their behalf.
Once funding is received, NKADD will work with NKCA, the cities and counties, and the local utilities to market the program to residents. It is anticipated that funding will begin being awarded within the next few months.
